Nearing Valentine’s Day, certain products begin to sell more compared to regular days.

The e-commerce platform Shopee has noted a sales increase of chocolates by up to 70 percent, followed by body-care and beauty products.

This finding is based on a research by Shopee Indonesia during the campaign period “Shopee Days of Love” from Feb. 1 - 14. Another trend that’s worth mentioning is an increase in women’s products sales purchased by men and vice versa.

The platform released a list of favorite gifts for Valentine’s Day. Male users are more likely to buy chocolates, beauty products such as lip gloss or body lotion, and gift sets. While female users of Shopee Indonesia tend to favor duffle bags as gifts, marking a 130 percent increase in sales on the platform. The runners-up on this list are chocolates and men’s cologne.

Chocolates as customary gifts for Valentine’s Day seem to dominate the game, as in Japan where the Japanese are expected to spend 130 billion yen (US$ 1.6 billion) on chocolates, according to the Straits Times

The KitKat store in the Ginza area of Tokyo recently made itself distinct with pink walls, related to its newest product: naturally bright pink chocolate, made without any additional flavors or coloring.
